08th January Ledbury Town away
|
|
Shawbury always knew this was going to be a tough encounter as it is not an easy place to come to and get a result as Ledbury don't give much
away at home. But Shawbury matched them stride for stride through out much of the first half until Robbie Colwell's thunderbolt of a shot gave shawbury keeper Steve Jones rooted to the spot no chance as it flew into the net from around the edge of the 18yard box.
But then Ledbury were reduced to 10 men as one of their players got a straight red card for an alledged two footed tackle on Shawbury defender
Paul Matthews who was then unable to carry on due to his injury and so Jamie Lee replaced him.
Nicky Porter then attacked the Ledbury goal and as he cut in from the left handside went past two or three players in the box but then found
himself tripped and a penalty was awarded which Steve Handley thankfully converted this time around.
The second half saw Shawbury dominate for long periods but couldn't convert their chances as the 10 men of Ledbury defended well and kept
Shawbury out. Darren Leonard came close but his goalbond header was some how kept out by the Ledbury defender who didn't know much about it as it hit him on the back of the head at the far post.
Shawbury joint managers were a little dissapointed not to take all three points but were pleased with the character of the side who battled well
throughout the game on a very tricky pitch. |

Shawbury put the boot into Wellington

15th January Wellington home
|
|
Shawbury produced a very good team performance at home on Saturday and ran out 5-2 winners over their visiting Herefordshire opponents
Wellington who beat Shawbury earlier in the season.
Shawbury were sharp straight from the kick off and put Wellington under pressure with crosses fired into the box from either wing with the keeper
having to pull off some fine saves.
The first goal came from the penalty spot after the ball was handled in the box by a defender which Steve Handley converted with ease. Darren
Leonard made it two when he raced through on goal and cooly chipped the ball over the advancing keeper, Gavin Brocklehurst could of made it three but the keeper made a good save only for the ball to rebound out to Tom Rogers who volleyed home from the edge of the box, Wellington pulled one back just before half time to reduce the deficit.
Rogers got his second early in the second half after good work from Nicky Porter in midfield put Rogers in and through on goal. Rogers then got
his hat trick when he volleyed home from close range into the bottom corner.
Wellington got a late consolation but never really threatened the Shawbury goal.

Shawbury rue missed chances

22nd January Pelsall Villa
|
|
Shawbury failed to close the gap on leaders Tipton Town who were involved in FA Vase duty on Saturday when they travelled away to lowly Pelsall
Villa. Shawbury started well but couldn't find the back of the net as Pelsall were put on the back foot for much of the first half.
Shawbury found the Pelsall keeper in fine form as he kept out some good goalscoring opportunities from Darren Leonard, Tom Rogers and Nicky
Porter but as the game went on you felt it was not going to Shawbury's day as Pelsall were awarded a freekick towards the end of the first half which was curled into the box and headed into the net by the home sides defender giving Steve Jones in goal no chance & against the run of play.
Shawbury pressed for the equaliser and were camped in the Pelsall half for most of the second period but instead of coverting the numerous chances
into goals, Pelsall then broke away and scored at the other end to make it 2-0 unbelieveable.
Steve Giles & Jez Harman were brought on from the subs bench to add a bit more attacking up front which paid off when Jez fired an unstoppable
shot in to the net but it was too little and too late as Pelsall took all three points. |

Missing key players
|
|
Shawbury went into this game with a few key players missing due to injury and work commitments but it was no
excuse as Shawbury suffered a second successive defeat away to Goodrich on Saturday with both goals scored in the first half. The first goal for Goodrich was a well taken freekick just outside the 18yard box which was put into the top corner of the net giving Steve Jones in goal no chance of a save.
Shawbury felt a little unlucky shortly afterwards as a Jez Harman shot rattled the crossbar from around 30 yards.
Tom Rogers then lashed an effort at goal a few minutes later but was saved by the keeper.
Then just as things were going the way for Shawbury, Goodrich go up the other end and double their lead with a
well struck shot inside the box , the Shawbury keeper got a hand to it and pushed it on to the underside of the crossbar but was unable to keep it out.
The second half saw Shawbury play much better with a few chances at goal but they couldn't break down a big
physical Goodrich side who stood firm and held out for the points. |
