Shawbury suffer in cup tie
|
|
Shawbury United are out of the E & S West Midland League Premier division league cup after falling to a 3-1 defeat
at Tipton Town.
Title favourites Tipton the league leaders by a comfortable eight points and with games in hand - but Shawbury, who
are third in the table, had gone into last nights first round clash with some hope after seeing Tipton lose only their second game of the season last Saturday.
However, Shawbury got off to a bad start when Tipton put in a cross on 10 minutes only for it to hit Paul Matthews
and fly into the net for an own goal.
Tipton added a second with a 25 yard screamer on 35 minutes before Shaun Humphries pulled one back five minutes
later after some good midfield play.
Shawbury pushed for an equaliser in the second half but were hit on the break to concede a late third.
Boss Alan Smith said: "We had planned to keep it tight for the first 20 minutes but instead we had an awful start with
an unlucky own goal. "That's the last thing you want, especially against Tipton." |

Shawbury below par

19th February Brierley & Hagley Alliance home
|
|
Shawbury put in a below par performance on Saturday when Brierley & Hagley Alliance visited the Butler Sports
Ground.
Shawbury started brightly when Tom Rogers opened the scoring early in the first half but that was about as good as it
got as Shawbury took their foot off the pedal and allowed Brierley & Hagley to get back into the game.
The second half saw Shawbury play a little better with a few chances created in the visitors goal but Shawbury
couldn't find that second cushion goal and so the inevitable happened Brierley & Hagley equalised with a free kick which was put into the box only for Shawbury midfielder Mark Pragg to get the final touch on the ball and end the game 1-1.
All in all a poor performance all round with the team letting themselves down as well as the manager and the
supporters. |
