2nd April Wolverhampton Casuals away

Shawbury still remain in 3rd spot
|
|
Shawbury's indifferent season continued on Saturday when they failed to continue their recent good return to form by losing away to
Wolvehampton Casuals 4-0.
Shawbury started well but they found the home keeper in excellent form as he kept out Tom Rogers & Steve Giles to keep the score down to 0-0
going in at the break.
The second half was a completely different story as Wolverhampton Casuals came out with all guns blazing and took an early lead. Shawbury
who were completely stunned with the goal then fell further behind a minute later and could not cope with what seemed like a completely different Wolve's Cas side who then added two more goals in as many minutes to add to Shawbury's miserable afternoon and sending Shawbury back up the M54 empty handed.
Shawbury must now pick themselves up for Monday night when they play County league side Meole Brace in the semi final of the Powell
Challenge Cup at the Butler Sports Ground in Wem 7.30 ko. |

Shawbury make it to Powell Cup Final
|
|
Shawbury progressed to the final of the Powell Charity Cup competition on Monday evening by beating County League side Meole Brace 4-1 at
the Butler Sports Ground in Wem.
Shawbury didn't have it all their own way as the Shrewsbury based side Meole Brace did try and play some good football at times & kept
Shawbury at bay until just before half time striker Steve Giles poked the ball past the Meole keeper to make it 1-0 going in at the break.
Shawbury then stepped up a gear in the second half and Giles added another goal early on when the Meole defence failed to clear their lines and
Giles volleyed home from close range. Giles then got his third of the game shortly after as he beat his marker and poked the ball past the advancing keeper one again. Shaun Humphries got the fourth of the game as the the difference in leagues now started to show but Meole did get a consolation late on from substitute Mark Walters.
Shawbury will now face either fellow league opponents Mkt Drayton Town or County League side Wem Town in the other semi final to be played
next Monday. |

9th April Ledbury Town home
|
|
Shawbury close gap
|
|
Shawbury will try and close in on the runners up spot after Market Drayton lost away to Dudley Town 2-0 at the weekend but are still four
points adrift of their near neighbours.
Shawbury started the better side and the Ledbury keeper found himself quite busy in the opening stages of the game by bringing out some
superb saves to deny the lively Giles and Humphries partnership upfront.
The opening goal came from a penalty when Shawbury defender Phil Denson was held down in the box when he was sure to head home a
corner kick and the resulting spot kick was neatly despatched by Dave Timms.
Ledbury did manage to claw level just after half time when prolific goalscorer Robbie Colwell unleashed a fierce shot which took a slight
deflection and into the back of the net. With the game being played at real pace and plenty of end to end action it was hard to tell which way it was going to go until around 10 minutes to go Steve Giles notched his 20th goal of the season by heading home a cross at the far post.
Substitute Tom Rogers then came on a scored the third goal after a Ledbury player played a short backpass to the keeper & Rogers nipped
in and rolled the ball past the keeper to put the result beyond Ledbury. |

12th April Gornal Athletic away

|
Shawbury lose out after win
|
|
Shawbury United had a night to forget as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Gornal Athletic and also saw Matt Bucknell rushed to hospital with a head
injury.
Shawbury had been in high spirits going into last nights game after recording a fin 3-1 win over Ledbury on Saturday. That had left them
harbouring hopes that they could chase down second spot in the Express & Star West Midland League Premier Division.
But it was a different story last night. "We weren't at the races to be fair," said manager Alan Smith. " Gornal were quicker and stronger."
And Matt Bucknell had to go to the Birmingham Infirmary with a head injury. The pitch was bone-hard and after he went down he got a boot in the head. He was conscious but i was very concerned about him. |

16th April Tipton Town away
|
|
Tipton crowned champions
|
|
Well done to Tipton Town who won the league championship on Saturday still with five game left to spare as they overcame Shawbury United
2-0.
Favourites Tipton did not have it all their own way and had to work hard for their victory as Shawbury & Tipton both created chances through out
the game with both sides failing to convert them into goals and so went in at half time 0-0.
The second half was quite similair to the first and it took until around the hour mark when Tipton took a quick freekick at the edge of the 18yard
box which was headed back across goal for Reynolds to lash home from close range. Tiptons second goal came shortly after as Shawburyfailed to clear their lines and the ball was poked home again from close range.
Shawbury still had a couple of chances when Tom Rogers came close but his attempted lob over the keeper was not enough, Steve Giles went
one on one with the keeper but failed to convert. Shaun Hayes came on as sub & also went close with just the keeper to beat but failed to find the net. Overall a good game considering the injuries many of the players were carrying & well done to Tipton who are worthy champions. |
|
20th April Lye Town away
|
|
Shawbury draw a blank
|
|
Shawbury were unable to break down their lowly counterparts away to Lye Town on Wednesday evening and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Bur credit to Lye as they have improved as the season has gone on gave Shawbury a real good go but were unable to break down a solid visiting
Shawbury defence who soaked up quite a bit pressure late on.
And with Shawbury the squad carrying plenty of knocks they were still able to able to threaten the Lye goal & with a little more luck could of won
the game but the crossbar denied them on two occassions. |

Injury Ravaged
|
|
23rd April Kington Town home
|
|
Shawbury United fell to only their second home defeat of the season when they lost 1-0 to Kington on Saturday.
Shawbury who had 11 players out through injury or work commitments, fell to a hotly-disputed goal early in the
second half.
Shawbury boss Alan Smith felt the goal should of been disallowed for offside when but the referee ruled the player
was not interfering with play even though he was clearly 5-6 yards offside but the linesman failed to spot this and so the referee waved play on and the player scored.
Shawbury still had their chances to level and had two chances cleared off the line in the dying stages but were
unable to break Kington down. |
